Ignite imaginations with a local author visit!

A woman sitting on a chair in front of a group of children in a library, giving a storytime presentation. The children are sitting on the carpet listening attentively. There are books and a projector screen behind her with a message that says, 'Thank you, Matsuyama Elementary, for having me!'

“Thank you so much for visiting our 1st-grade class. Your visit not only encouraged our students to read but also sparked a newfound interest in writing among them. Your inspiration will have a lasting impact on our young learners.”

-Mrs. Carrington-Tagert, Matsuyama Elementary School

Inviting an author into your classroom or library gives students a chance to experience stories in a whole new way. During a visit with me, Sacramento-area author Cortney Cino and creator of the Whimspire picture books, students get a behind-the-scenes look at how an idea grows into a story and eventually becomes a book they can hold in their hands.

Through lively read-alouds, conversation about the creative process, and a peek into the journey from idea to publication, students discover the amazing way stories start with imagination, curiosity, and the kinds of ideas they have every day.

Get ready for a fun and engaging experience.

I want kids to leave feeling inspired—to write, to read, to embrace their true selves, or even all three. My goal is to create a joyful, shared experience for everyone in the room. If they walk away feeling lighter and filled with happiness, I see that as a success. That spark of joy might just be what motivates them to pick up their next book or write the next great story.

  • Sessions are customizable and flexible.

Perfect for grades K–3 (adaptable for preschool–5th). Join me for engaging 45 mins-1 hour visits that are tailored to your group's needs. We often split up children into groups (e.g., K/1st, 2nd/3rd).

Topics I typically cover include (usually a combination based on age):

    • Read aloud and interactive games

    • Elements of a strong story

    • How an idea grows into a story

    • The different steps and people involved in publishing a book

    • Path to becoming a children’s book writer

  • Equipment is provided if needed.

I understand that every school is unique and can provide the necessary equipment, from a screen to microphone and projector.

  • Payment is simplified.

I offer two payment options. I have set rate for a three hour block of time (this typically covers two sessions). Alternatively, instead of the fee, we can align on a reasonable book order customized to your student count (which we'll discuss and finalize beforehand).

  • Promotional materials are provided.

To make ordering easy, I'll supply you with a personalized flyer containing a QR code for parents to access the school ordering page.

  • Ordering is paperless/cashless and personalized.

Parents can enter the child’s name and notes in the online form, so I can create a custom message when I sign the book.

  • Book distribution is streamlined.

On the day of the event, I’ll deliver the books sorted by classroom.

  • Schools can receive money back.

For orders exceeding 25 hardcovers, I give back 20% to the school.

My author visits:

• Help inspire reluctant readers and writers
• Connect storytelling with creativity and confidence
• Support literacy, imagination, and classroom discussion
